News Summary for May 12th, 2009

++ Classes resumed in primary and secondary schools in Mexico City and most of the country… School had closed since April 24 when the government announced initial measures to battle an epidemic of the A H1N1 influenza. However, school continued suspended in Hidalgo, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Nayarit, Chiapas, Jalisco, Michoacán and Guerrero. Classes in those states will resume on May 18.

++ SEP requested changes to the school calendar for this year… Because of the forced break, classes will continue until July 14.

++ Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova Villalobos said that the number of confirmed deaths from the flu rose to 56 and with a total of 2,059 cases… He said the United States has the most cases, with 2,600 and three deaths. Click here to continue
